Scientist-Senior Scientist, Cell Biology
Job Description
Merrimack Pharmaceuticals is a biopharmaceutical company discovering, developing and preparing to commercialize innovative medicines paired with companion diagnostics for the treatment of serious diseases, with an initial focus on cancer. Merrimack currently has six targeted therapeutic oncology candidates in clinical development.
We are looking for a candidate who thrives in an interdisciplinary environment and who is not afraid of challenges. The ideal candidate is a good communicator, high-energy, self-motivated, and brings an innovative mindset to studying cancer biology. The individual will join a discovery-stage team to advance a therapeutic concept from lead selection and biomarker identification through pre-clinical development.
Job Responsibilities:
•Responsibilities will include identifying, designing, and executing high impact experiments that will further our understanding of target biology and advance the development of our therapeutic
•The individual will be expected to work closely with protein engineers, computational biologists, and other cell biologists on the team to advance the project in preclinical activities including lead selection, efficacy studies, mechanism of action studies, and developing a predictive biomarker strategy.
•The individual will collaborate / interact with a broad group of scientists within Merrimack and with external collaborators. Most importantly, successful candidates must be able to engage colleagues in cross-disciplinary scientific discussion, stay abreast of relevant scientific literature, write about their own work, and collaborate within and across multidisciplinary teams.
Requirements:
•This position requires a Ph.D. in a biological or related discipline with at least 2-3 years post-graduate experience.
•Extensive hands on knowledge of tumor biology, cancer signal transduction pathways, and experimental models and approaches to studying cancer biology
•Extensive experience with protein quantification methods, cell-based assays, and high-throughput experimental design is required
•Demonstrated experience in high content screening (single-cell microscopy, live cell imagine techniques) and/or animal models of cancer is a plus
•We value strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within a fast-moving team
