Senior Associate Scientist, Strain Engineering

Job Description
We are seeking a talented Senior Associate Scientist, Strain Engineering for our Industrial Products Division (IPD) located in South San Francisco. The candidate will be responsible for design and execution of DNA construction and strain engineering in microbial host systems. The ideal applicant will have extensive background in synthetic biology and microbiology and thrive in a dynamic team environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Be a key member of a team that will support IPD’s DNA construction, metabolic engineering and microbial strain development efforts.
Work in partnership with other IPD teams (Fermentation, Assay Development and Screening, Analytical) to advance projects.
Responsible for performing and tracking of technical troubleshooting activities.
Maintain timely documentation of laboratory work.
Evaluate data, prepare technical reports and make scientific presentations.
Maintain knowledge of current BioIndustrial/Metabolic Engineering literature.
Work on assignments independently that are complex in nature where significant judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations.
Be a conscientious laboratory citizen, adhere to EH&S standards, and use knowledge of laboratory procedures to advance projects under rapidly shifting priorities and timelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE.
BS or MS (preferred) in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related field.
BS and 7+ years experience or MS and 5+ years experience with a proven track record of accomplishments, preferably in bio-industrial, or life sciences.
Experience in the following areas preferred:
Strain/metabolic engineering in prokaryotic or eukaryotic microorganisms.
High-throughput biology, assay development, screening and analytics.
Microbial cell physiology.
Familiarity with automation instruments (liquid handlers, plate readers, etc.) and manipulation of large complex data sets.
