Senior Buyer

Job Description
Overview:

The Senior Buyer coordinates the purchase and delivery of parts, supplies, assemblies, raw materials, and other goods.

Responsibilities:

Examine, select, order, and purchase at the most favorable price, merchandise consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other factors

Negotiate prices, discounts, terms and transportation arrangements for merchandise
Interview and work closely with vendors to obtain and develop desired products

Authorize payment of invoices or return of merchandise

Consult with engineering about budget and goods to be purchased

Prepare purchase orders and send copies to suppliers and to departments originating requests

Respond to internal customer inquiries about order status, changes or cancellations

Contact suppliers in order to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries and other problems

Review requisition orders in order to verify accuracy, terminology and specifications

Prepare, maintain and review purchasing files, reports and price lists

Compare prices, specifications and delivery dates in order to determine the best bid among potential suppliers

Track the status of requisitions, contracts and orders

Calculate costs of orders and charge or forward invoices to appropriate accounts

Review documents such as production schedules and work orders to determine materials requirements and material priorities

Confer with department supervisors and other personnel to access progress and discuss needed changes

Notify production when schedules may be impacted due to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, or other interruptions, collaborating with management,
marketing, sales, production and engineering

Confer with establishment personnel, vendors and customers to coordinate production and shipping activities and to resolve complaints or eliminate delays

Requisition and maintain inventories of materials and supplies necessary to meet production demands

Compile information regarding purchasing activity so that status reports can be completed


Qualifications:
Experience and Skills Required:

Bachelor's degree

5+ years purchasing experience

Proficiency using MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook

Proficiency using database programs
