Job Description:
BASIC FUNCTION
This position is accountable for the management and oversight of metallurgical operations within the Foundry Division.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES/ACTIVITIES
Establishes on-going and mutually beneficial relationships with vendors and suppliers of steel for use in manufacture of Foundry equipment.
Monitors and audits quality of raw materials; works with Purchasing Department and suppliers to ensure that LUFKIN’s specifications are realistic and are being met.
Provides technical expertise in material selection and specification, welding techniques and processes, machining processes and development of appropriate destructive and non-destructive testing.
Develops improvements in manufacturing processes which reduce scrap costs, reduce process cost, and provide for more efficient use of material.
Work with Engineering Design and process improvement teams in continuous improvement effort in Foundry Engineering.
Provide technical expertise to other operating divisions of LUFKIN as required.
Serve as corporate representative in professional organizations to enhance corporate image.
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to communicate, both verbally and written, with internal and external customers.
Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or related degree and three plus years of experience.
Experience in material selection and specifications in a ductile and gray iron environment.
Experience in working with suppliers of cast iron raw materials establishing proper material specifications and assuring conformance to specifications.
Working knowledge of both destructive and non-destructive testing proces |
