Job Description | Summary
As part of the Engineering team, the Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing manufacturing processes, equipment and plants (from pilot to demonstration scale). The process engineer will contribute to the development of design packages including process flow diagrams, material and energy balances, and cost models for processes under development. The candidate may participate in planning and data collection as well as in the hands-on operation of the scaled up processes. The successful candidate will be expected to travel as needed to other research labs as well as pilot, demonstration, and commercial facilities and suppliers in support of process development.
Responsibilities:
•Technology transfer of processes from bench to pilot to demonstration scales.
•Interact with pilot and demonstration plant teams in planning runs and collecting data.
•Analyze data and write progress reports.
•Participate in trials and experiments at various scales and facilities as needed.
•Provide input to technology implementation plans and schedules for pilot and demonstration projects.
•Assist with the development of SOPs.
•Interact with vendors and design / engineering firm teams to design and specify process equipment.
•Interface with vendors regarding equipment specifications and testing.
•Develop sizing information for process equipment utilizing fundamental engineering calculations.
•Develop and maintain process material and energy balances.
•Participate in the development and completion of basic technology packages.
•Interact with staff in R&D, Finance, Business Development and other divisions for data analysis and reviews.
•Comply with all company safety regulations, company policies, and actively participate in safety programs.
•Participate in HAZOP reviews.
•Up to 50% travel to vendor, pilot and demonstration sites in US and abroad.
Skills & Qualifications:
•Minimum BS in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering with solid knowledge of biochemical process unit operations is required. Advanced degree preferred.
•Minimum 10 years experience working in a pilot/commercial plant or a research and development facility in a relevant field is required.
•Proven experience designing process equipment using fundamental engineering calculations is required.
•Ability to analyze complex scientific problems and develop technical solutions.
•Experience with Process Flow Diagrams, P&ID's, instrumentation and control.
•Expertise in Microsoft suite products including Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
•Aspen Plus and/or SuperPro Designer experience preferred.
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
•Ability to effectively work individually and in a team with minimal supervision. |
