| | Job Description |  | See original job posting at Myriant Technologies » As part of the Processing Technologies team, the Sr. Process Engineer will develop new and improved processes and technologies related to the pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis, thermo-chemical conversion of lignocellulosic feedstocks / energy crops, for production specialty chemicals. He/She will participate in experiments and trials at the bench, pilot, demonstration, and commercial scale. He/She will analyze and workup experimental results in summarized periodic research reports. The successful candidate will be expected to travel as needed to other research labs as well as pilot, demonstration, and commercial facilities and suppliers in support of pretreatment process development.
 
 Responsibilities
 
 Planning, oversight, execution, and leadership of pretreatment process projects
 
 Preparation of day to day experimental plans and conducting hands-on experiments
 
 Analyze data and write progress reports
 
 Design of equipment and process material and energy balances
 
 Participate in trials and experiments at various scales and facilities as needed
 
 Work in collaboration with staff in other divisions for data and reviews
 
 Provide input to technology implementation plans and schedules for pilot and demonstration projects
 
 Work with operating plant staff in testing processes at pilot and demonstration scale including engineering, operations and maintenance in planning runs and collecting data
 
 Interface with vendors regarding equipment specifications and testing
 
 Comply with all safety regulations and company policies
 
 Some travel (10-20%) to vendor, pilot and demonstration sites in US and abroad
 
 Skills and Qualifications
 
 Minimum BS in Chemical or Biochemical Engineering with solid knowledge of chemical process unit operations is required. MS or PhD preferred
 
 Minimum 5 -10 years experience working in a research and development facility or pilot/ commercial plant in relevant field is required
 
 Hands-on experience in operations start-up and troubleshooting
 
 Prior experience working with Cellulosic Biomass, Pretreatment, enzymatic Hydrolysis or thermo chemical / gasification related areas is required
 
 Ability to analyze complex scientific problems and develop technical solutions
 
 Experience with Process Flow Diagrams, instrumentation and control
 
 Expertise in Microsoft suite products including Excel, Project and PowerPoint
 
 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
 
 Ability to effectively work individually and in a team with minimal supervision
