We are now hiring for a Senior Process Engineer for our Sayreville, NJ location.



BASIC FUNCTION:



Responsible for the direction, coordination, monitoring and supervision of a wide variety of general engineering services for MRM Steel Mill Division including mechanical, electrical, civil and steel mill production processes involving plant construction projects, alterations, installations, maintenance, and production processes of plant facilities and equipment.



NATURE AND SCOPE:



This position is primarily responsible for providing technical assistance and engineering expertise in an advisory staff relationship to the operating superintendents and Mill General Manager, working in very close coordination and cooperation with maintenance management on day to day maintenance problems. The Senior Process Engineer reports directly to the Department Manager.


The Senior Process Engineer troubleshoots particularly complex processing machinery and equipment. Participates in design changes, Melt Shop and Rolling Mill Modifications, recommendations for improvements in processes or production methods. Analyses all

types of systems, circuits, diagrams, and drawings as required to install, repair, adjust, modify, adapt, calibrate or service a wide range of machinery, equipment, mechanical apparatus, and mechanical devices on a variety of steel mill production facilities.

The incumbent must be familiar with steel mill operations as well as maintenance requirements and limitations. Due to close contact with operating management and personnel, outside contractors and vendors, the position requires the ability to effectively communicate with a variety of personalities and interests.


The Senior Process Engineer position has been identified as one of the Steel Mill Group’s successive planning positions. By assignment of the Division Manager or department Manager, the incumbent will be exposed to all aspects of mill operations, to include business management techniques, budgetary and accounting responsibilities, as well as interpersonal and supervisory skills training development programs. The incumbent will also be expected to provide engineering expertise to special projects within the division. Coordinates installation and construction projects and changes in the production process.


This position is responsible for directing the preparation and completion of blueprints for additions, installations, maintenance and repair purposes. Preparing drawings and sketches for modification of machinery and equipment and layouts on various systems. On large projects, works from design drawings preparing necessary drawings to construct facilities. The incumbent is responsible for checking specifications and drawings for accuracy prior to start and acceptance of work. Supervise subcontractors related to large projects, assuring compliance to specifications.

Responsible for analyzing operating problems, developing solutions and implementing corrective actions. Responsible for staying knowledgeable of melting and rolling technology and recommending changes to effect continual improvement in the production process.


This position requires utilizing ones supervisory skills directing both production and maintenance personnel on a day to day operation.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:


1. Provide technical expertise to Melt Shop, Rolling Mill or maintenance problems.

2. Design or develop new or alterations to old structures, systems and equipment.

3. Provide timely and accurate cost estimates on proposed projects.

4. Analyze and make effective recommendations as to modifications, renovations, rework, and replacement of facilities and equipment and processes.

5. Supervise and coordinate major installations, alterations, additions, etc., to insure imely completion within specifications and with minimal disruption to production.

6. Comply with company policy and procedures.



Requirements


The incumbent should possess the knowledge, abilities, and background as may be demonstrated by one with a complete engineering education and 7 to 10 years of experience in heavy industrial maintenance or steel mill production with an orientation period to adapt to Gerdau AmeriSteel steelmaking equipment, processes, and facilities.



The incumbent must perform the above mentioned duties and responsibilities in accordance with all Federal, Provincial, and Local environmental regulations. Employees must also report any situation which may have a detrimental impact to human health or the environment to their immediate supervisor.
