Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The position of Quality Engineer is part of the Manufacturing Engineering department and serves to design and administer implementation of statistical process control and other quality improvement methods both internally and through our suppliers. Quality planning, analyzing statistical data, and monitoring the overall effectiveness of both internal and external quality programs are a major responsibility. Interfacing with engineering team, cross-functional teams, all levels of management, and suppliers are included in the responsibilities of this position.
SCOPE OF POSITION
Incumbent reports directly to the Manufacturing Engineer Manager. Position involves a high degree of interaction with engineering team, cross functional teams, supervisors, managers, and Precor suppliers. Follow up, attention to detail, training skills, troubleshooting, supplier management, and professionalism are important factors in daily administration of this position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Quality
Actively pursues continuous improvement and ease of doing business to meet or exceed customer needs and to further overall company goals and objectives.
Participates in Total Quality projects to support the quality effort at Precor.
Create a set of metrics to measure product quality on a weekly/monthly basis.
Take ownership for the quality of the product that is shipped.
Supplier Quality Management
Work closely with purchasing/operations team to mange suppliers in key areas product defect feed-back, manage course of action/solution, troubleshoot with supplier and team, come up with options/solutions.
Statistical Process Control
Develops statistical process control internally through control chart implementation and process capability studies.
Assists in training and implementation of control charts at operator level.
Monitor process capability of suppliers processes.
Quality Planning
Reviews and updates receiving inspection sampling plans (1st article testing), inspection methods and identifies characteristics to be inspected on purchased items.
Represent QA in design, functional requirements, and design reviews.
Design Review
Participate in design review and new product development while planning product requirements and reviewing product drawings for proper and realistic tolerance.
Apply knowledge of reliability to design and test of products.
Monitor Quality Program Effectiveness
Identify inadequacies in the overall quality program and quality control methods and implement programs to alleviate the inadequacies.
Defect Analysis
Analyze causes of defects for both internal and external supplied components.
Field Complaints
Perform field complaint analysis by product line.
Supplier Evaluation
Assist in evaluating suppliers and their processes and their overall ability to meet Precor specifications.
Experience and Skills:
Education
Bachelor of Science in Engineering REQUIRED
Six-Sigma Black Belt Certified REQUIRED
A.S.Q.C. Certified Quality- PREFERRED
Experience
Minimum of five to seven years experience working in the Quality field in a manufacturing environment.
Computer literate, full experience in Windows interfaces.
Experience with SAP, Mini-Tab & SPC Software Plus
Basic knowledge of reliability for manufactured products is required.
