Bend Research is seeking a Senior Research Chemist who will be responsible for quantitatively developing, characterizing and testing active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, controlled release pharmaceutical formulations, and specifically amorphous formulations for possible enhancement of drug delivery.

Essential Job Functions:

Work with a multidisciplinary team to formulate challenging molecules with an emphasis on performance and stability.

Identify chemical stability issues in early stage drug development programs between novel chemical entities and potential formulation excipients and matrices.

Interpret stability data and conduct long term stability calculations to predict shelf life of novel pharmaceutical formulations.

Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary, team oriented, customer focused, research and manufacturing environment.

Document all experiments and results thoroughly

May act in a mentoring/coaching role for junior chemists and interns.

Perform research and/or development in collaboration with others in chemistry; make detailed observations and analyzes data.

Help maintain broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in chemistry.

Exercise technical discretion in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies.

Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses.

Prepare presentations for clients and participates in data reviews and client discussions.

Maintain a high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.

May provide support in corporate research and development of patent applications.



Position Requirements

A Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry, Quantitative Organic Chemistry, or related Chemistry Field is required.

Eligible candidates will have an in-depth understanding of organic reactivity – both in solution and in the solid state - and the underlying thermodynamic and kinetic factors that influence organic reactivity.

The ability to implement mathematical models to understand and predict reactivity is essential.

Additional skills, such as experience with solid state chemistry, colloidal materials and interfacial phenomena are beneficial.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in analytical science and physical chemistry to compliment the required skill set.
