We are currently seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented scientist to join our Drug Discovery Pharmacology group at the Senior Research Scientist level. The Drug Discovery Pharmacology group is an integral part of the Drug Discovery group of the Ferring Research Institute (FRI), the research enterprise of Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Inc. FRI is committed to the identification and characterization high quality peptidic and biological clinical candidates in the Ferring Therapeutic Areas (TAs) of Reproductive Health, Gastroenterology, Urology, Orthopedics and Endocrinology. This position requires that the candidate have scientific expertise in a number of disciplines including cell-based and cell-free in vitro assay methods in drug discovery, and molecular pharmacology of GPCRs and other receptor targets, as well as the ability to converse and collaborate with scientists in our In Vivo Pharmacology, Protein Engineering, ADME and Chemistry groups and potential external partners. This position will report to the Senior Director of Drug Discovery Pharmacology and will be based at the FRI site in San Diego, CA.
Job description
The candidate will be a member of the Drug Discovery Pharmacology group, consisting of Ph.D. and non-Ph.D. scientists. S/he will develop and validate in vitro assays used in support of drug discovery, and in collaboration with other team members ensure the routine generation of timely and high-quality data in support of projects. The candidate will be well versed in data analysis methods using non-linear regression and statistical analysis of data, and skilled in the written and oral presentation of data to have a positive impact on projects in areas of therapeutic interest to Ferring, contributing to the scientific management of projects to find drug leads, optimize leads, and identify potential clinical candidates, participating in drug discovery teams in collaboration with Chemistry, Bioanalytical/ADME and In Vivo Pharmacology groups. It is expected that with development, s/he will become a leader within the Institute and, as such, will be an important contributor to the scientific planning for the company. As a member of our scientific team, the candidate would be expected to create and advance concepts for new drug discovery projects, and help in the evaluation and advancement of concepts generated by others. The candidate will contribute scientifically to discussions regarding external collaborations. S/he will play an essential role in expanding our product pipeline, advance our platform as well as elucidate the mechanisms and functions of our therapeutic molecules.

Requirements
• PhD and postdoctoral experience in Biology, Pharmacology or related field
• 5-12 years research experience beyond postdoctoral position
• Excellent in vitro assay skills
• Experience and skill in collaboration, establishing and working in team situations
• Experience in managing and mentoring others
• Strong leadership potential
• Excellent scientific skills demonstrated by important contributions to important areas of biology, pharmacology, and drug discovery research
• Outstanding written and oral presentation capabilities.
Preferred
• Experience in drug discovery research
• Record of major scientific contributions
• Expertise in one or more of the following therapeutic areas: Reproductive Health, Urology, Gastroenterolgy, Endocrinology, Orthopedics, and Critical Care
