At Synthetic Genomics, Inc., we are dedicated to developing and commercializing genomic-driven solutions to address global challenges. We are currently seeking a Sr. Scientist, Strain Development to join our fast-growing, dynamic and collaborative team in La Jolla, CA.
This Scientist will provide specific expertise in physiology and biochemistry to a multifunctional team tasked to pursue development of photosynthetic microbes to commercially relevant end-points.
In collaboration with senior leadership, define and execute research plans to accomplish targets on determined timelines.
Lead development of proprietary algae.
Provide knowledge about physiology, specific pathways, and metabolic regulation relevant to photosynthetic organisms.
Interface effectively with Bioinformatics, Discovery, Bioanalytical Chemistry, and Production R&D teams.
Conduct research contributing to a commercially viable process for algal bio-oil.
Present data-supported conclusions in written and oral reports; generate detailed and complete notebooks, and participate in preparation and prosecution of filings for intellectual property related to the research.
Maintain a culture of safety in the laboratories and other R&D facilities.
Comply with Synthetic Genomics’ company policies including observance of US and
California laws and regulations.
Provide a resource in biotechnology for other individuals within the immediate program, in related programs of the company, and for the Business Development group.
Requires a Ph.D. in Phycology, Plant Biology, Microbial Physiology or related field with more than seven years of demonstrated accomplishment beyond the final degree.
Experience in strain construction and evaluation, design experiments, and validation of scale-down.
Experience in genetic modification of eukaryotic organisms, preferably photosynthetic.
Familiarity with metabolism and regulation of eukaryotic organisms with relevance to microalgae.
Demonstrate record of productive team leadership.
Demonstrated familiarity with processes associated with generation of intellectual property.
