Mendel Biological Solutions is currently seeking an innovative and self-motivated Senior Scientist - Analytical Chemistry to lead a team that isolates and characterizes biologically active natural products from microbial fermentation broths.
The ideal candidate will:
· Collaborate closely with microbiologists, plant physiologists and agronomists to develop and execute on strategies for the bioactivity-guided fractionation of complex microbial fermentation broths
· Elucidate the structure of isolated compounds using a variety of spectroscopic instruments
· Develop and optimize analytical methods for the separation and quantification of active natural products
· Support the development of an intellectual property portfolio
· Maintain an organized physical and electronic workspace and collaborate closely with the data management
· Team to develop automated data capture and reporting strategies
· Promote a culture of laboratory safety
Requirements
What You Will Need To Bring With You:
· 2+ years of non-academic experience
· Hands-on experience with HPLC and GC, including coupled chromatography and spectroscopic instruments (i.e. HPLC-MS, GC-MS) and preparatory stage separation
· Extensive experience with extraction (liquid-liquid, solid-liquid) techniques
· M.S. degree in organic chemistry, biochemistry or analytical chemistry (with 3+ years of relevant experience) or Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry, biochemistry or analytical chemistry
· Structure elucidation experience using high-resolution MS and NMR
· Experience as a mentor and/or project leadership
· Excellent English communication skills (written and oral)
· Proven ability to work well in a team environment
What Will Put You Ahead:
· 5+ years non-academic work experience
· Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry with 3+ years of relevant experience
· Experience in the separation of complex mixtures of natural products (e.g. plant extracts, microbial fermentation broths)
· Strong computational skills, e.g. familiarity with programming languages (Perl, Python, SQL), biostatistics (R, Matlab, SAS) or database architecture
