Job Description
The Senior Scientist for the Reagents Manufacturing Process Development team will define and execute cross-functional projects related to development and continuous improvement for our product lines, which include qPCR and droplet digital PCR reagents, the Bio-Plex suspension array system, pre-cast electrophoresis gels, and general molecular biology reagents. The successful candidate will utilize his/her expertise in fundamental biochemical/biological methods to prepare new products for transfer into manufacturing, to troubleshoot existing manufacturing and QC processes, and to introduce improvements in material sourcing, manufacturing processes and assay performance. Working closely with R&D and manufacturing operations, this individual will develop robust and reproducible production and quality control methods. This scientist will define protocols and conduct optimization and validation experiments. He/she will act as a project lead that defines, plans, and executes continuous improvement projects.

The Manufacturing Development Senior Scientist is responsible for representing the Manufacturing team as a part of new product development projects. This individual is also responsible for identifying and implementing process improvements to standardize and improve existing manufacturing and QC processes. The position will also provide technical support to resolve QC and production technical issues. About 75% time of the scientist’s time will be spent in the laboratory experimentation/ data analysis and 25% in meetings and administrative tasks. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:
•Explore new technologies and identify creative solutions to improve current production and QC processes
•Design, execute, analyze and interpret experiments
•Experience in method and process development; validation and scale-up
•Lead root-cause analysis and FMEA, interface and collaborate with various development functions to solve a wide range of difficult scientific and operational problems.
•Present ongoing scientific/technical work at internal/departmental seminars and trainings.
•Represent Manufacturing Operations on new product development teams. Collaborate with operations functions to ensure on-time, robust, and cost-effective transfer of new products into manufacturing.
•Lead projects independently and make major contributions to new product development project teams.
•Document new production and QC processes and train relevant manufacturing personnel
•Participate in the verification and validation of new process improvements.
•Perform troubleshooting relating to product quality and manufacturing process issues.
•Work with external suppliers to resolve raw material quality issues.
Required Experience •Ph.D and two years industrial experience or a Master’s degree with five years relevant industrial experience. Formal training should be in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry or equivalent. Able to apply scientific training to solve manufacturing and operational issues.
•Have supervised or provided technical direction to junior scientists.
•Ability to build relationships through inter-organization collaborations.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing of scientific and technical reports and presentations.
•Strong assay development, analytical and troubleshooting skills; must deliver results in a timely way
•Experience in molecular biology reagent manufacturing processes.
•Lean six sigma, DOE and statistical analysis experience preferred.
•Working knowledge of and application of good manufacturing theories and practices.
•Experience with ERP system – BAAN, SAP, JD Edwards, or similar.
•Must have passion to innovate and drive changes.
•Must have personal accountability for results.

Working Conditions:
•Routinely handles chemicals required protective garments.
•May handle heavy equipment and move raw materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
