Position Summary
The Senior Scientist, is primarily responsible for providing leadership to a small group of bioanalysis and in vitro ADME scientists/research associates in support of discovery teams. The incumbent will be responsible for providing direct laboratory metabolism expertise and for management of in vitro and in vivo PK studies conducted within CAR and studies outsourced to CROs. The incumbent will have excellent communication skills and be required to interface with the cell biology, toxicology and chemistry leads on discovery program teams and to provide guidance and technical expertise to support early pharmacokinetic evaluation and drug metabolism of small molecules and implement PK/PD efforts in house.
Exceptional organizational skills will be required to manage research demands from multiple points with defined resources.The incumbent will be responsible for assisting the line management in establishing and achieving CAR strategic goals and tactical objectives. Ability to communicate early discovery metabolism/PK/ADME strategy to discovery program teams is essential. Ability to evaluate and communicate data/results in a program team and at levels to include the Research Management Team is expected.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Provides deep technical ability in Metabolism and DMPK as Individual Contributor and as Manager or Mentor of Analytical Pharmacology Group.: The Senior Scientist is responsible for leading the overall scientific, technical and operational efforts of the Bioanalytical group in support of Discovery Project Teams. This includes defining appropriate studies/endpoints and designing studies in DMPK for the relevant therapeutic areas and being responsible for the quality and interpretation of the data produced from the experimental systems, whether generated internally or through oversight of qualified external CROs.
2. The candidate will have direct bench level expertise in LC/MS instrumentation, metabolism and bioanalysis. The analysis of the bioanalysis data, by PK modeling software (Phoenix, NONMEM, etc) is required.
3. Scientific Excellence in Discovery: Sets the standard for quality research within the Bioanalytical group at CAR. Contributes to regular review of the project strategy and execution towards the nomination of a Development Candidate.Manages Internal Project Support: Responsible for quality, quantity and timelines of Metabolism, In vitro ADME, Bioanalysis and Pharmacokinetics experiments for Project Teams. Facilitates transition from Discovery with Non-clinical and coordinates execution of plans with key stakeholders. Projects and allocates resources and ensures tracking and follow-up as necessary.
4. Department Management: Responsible for establishing cross training to build a collaborative, efficient group and to deliver high quality data in a time efficient manner
5. Communications: Maintains productive communications with staff, cell biology, chemistry and Non-clinical colleagues Establishes effective partnerships/relationships through collaboration, expertise in current and future analytical technologies, and seamless transfer of information. Understands needs and considers external customers and/or internal clients in decisions and actions.
6. Leadership:

Qualifications
Skills/Knowledge Required:
• PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Chemistryor a related field.
• 6-10 years experience of Bioanalysis/Pharmacokinetics within Discovery Research/Development function in the pharmaceutical industry
• Scientific knowledge of Drug Discovery, Metabolism/DMPK/ADME.
• Specific interest/knowledge in Oncology, Immunology & Inflammation related diseases a plus. Maintains current awareness in areas of expertise.
• Excellent scientific expertise in metabolism and bioanalysis required.
• Team player with strong mentoring skills
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• Broad technical skills in metabolism and DMPK. Good problem solving skills.
