Senior Scientist, Process Chemistry

Codexis is seeking a Senior Process Development Chemist to guide the research and develop efficient and effective processes as part of our Process Engineering and Chemistry team.

The ideal candidate will have several years of experience developing chemical processes in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The desire to design and guide bench-scale process testing and support the scale up / transfer into manufacturing is critical in this role. Experience with biocatalysis and /or product recovery from fermentation is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Design experiments and conduct advanced data analysis
Supervise bench and pilot scale work supporting development of scalable chemical processes

Development of written procedures and specifications for tech transfer to manufacturing collaborators

Leadership role in multi-disciplinary project teams composed of biochemists, engineers, fermentation scientists, and manufacturing personnel

Supervise or mentor scientific staff

Take personal responsibility for individual and co-worker safety and strictly adhere to all safety procedures and policies

Requirements

PhD in Chemistry or Chemical engineering with 8+ years of relevant industrial experience.

Other related scientific degrees may be considered provided that they are supplemented by significant industrial work experience

Demonstrated experience in leading multifunctional teams ranging from the laboratory environment through scale-up and commercial production

Strong track record in programs involving commercialization of organic chemicals

Practical experience in process development, scale-up, and transfer into manufacturing

Experience with relevant unit operations, including centrifugation, filtration, distillation, and extraction

Experience with biomass conversion and/or product recovery from fermentation is highly desired

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills are mandatory
