As an Underwriting Consultant you will work to manage assigned national accounts, select profitable risks and build a profitable portfolio of accounts. Responsibilities:
Identify and pursue opportunities for profitable growth and apply deep and broad expertise by line of business to achieve a balanced, profitable and quality book while protecting Company assets
Develop and maintain effective business relationships with internal and external clients; collaborate with Distribution partners to create and execute plan to manage the agent/broker relationship
Build, develop and display expertise in all dimensions of underwriting, including technical capability, account management and business acumen
Formally and informally guide, mentor, teach, and coach less experienced underwriters in both technical and professional skills
Actively continue to improve personal knowledge and practices of the insurance industry through work experience, in-house instruction, insurance specific designations (e.g. CPCU), industry courses, workshops, etc.
Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements as well as internal policies, procedures and standards
Qualifications:
Knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance coverages, risk selection, pricing, forms/filings, competitive environment, financial concepts, and producer/territory management
Demonstrated ability to make disciplined underwriting decisions while reaching new business, retention and other goals
Ability to independently analyze the most complex financial statements, hazards, coverage, losses, pricing terms, and competitive positions
Ability to communicate effectively (express views with confidence, presentations, influencing others, etc.), negotiate, work effectively with others, build relationships, plan and organize work, analyze and solve problems, and produce accurate work
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and a minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience and a commitment to making progress towards attaining the CPCU
