Job Description | Summary of Primary Responsibilities
Design Engineering:
1.Plans and develops innovative projects to resolve internal and external corrosion of piping system problems that have an important effect on major SPR programs. Prepares ¿Engineering Change Requests/Proposals¿ for revisions to the program baseline, and presents these to the appropriate change boards.
2.Prepares preliminary design feasibility studies for Major Maintenance (MM) projects involving pipeline and site piping systems.
3.Provides designs and prepares Summary of Work packages for maintenance and pipeline type construction subcontracts and ECN revisions to same.
4.Provides Scopes of Work (SOW) designs and prepares Corrective Maintenance Plans (CMP) for site personnel to make repairs or changes to cathodic protection, site piping and pipeline systems.
5.Assures SPR compliance with DOE and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations in the operation and maintenance of site piping and offsite pipelines. Lead Engineer: Functions as DM Lead Engineer on assigned project and interfaces with DOE, the A/E and the Construction Management Services Contractor as well as with other groups within DM. Design Reviews & Peer Reviews: Performs cathodic protection and piping design reviews on tasks done by others. Performs peer reviews of design performed by other engineers with relative experience. Special Studies and Failure Analysis: Ensure that material failure investigations and root cause analysis are carried out where considered necessary or as directed by management and that any implication with respect to integrity is reported.
O&M and Q.A. Support:
1.Provides technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, and Quality Assurance regarding projects under construction and ongoing maintenance of existing facilities.
2.Provides turnover support for facility changes and additions to site piping and pipeline systems. Answers technical questions from DM departments regarding site piping and piping system issues. Standard Specifications: Prepares, obtains CN approval, and issues SPR standard specifications and data sheets.
Integrity Testing:
1.Evaluates site piping and pipeline integrity and issues annual reports.
2.Provides technical evaluations on all mechanical equipment inspections including tanks, heat exchanger, pressure vessels, site piping and pipeline systems relating to corrosion.
3.Recommends alternatives for cleaning, inspections and repairs of site piping and pipeline systems. Maintains oversight of the Corrosion Control Instructions Manual and related Corrosion Monitoring and mitigation policies. Technical Baseline Documentation Support:
1. Identifies and supports required changes to site system description manuals based on changes to existing facilities or the installation of new facilities. Identifies and supports required changes to site operating procedures after completion of major maintenance and Operations and maintenance tasks. Continuing technical education and training in latest technology.
Qualifications REQUIRED: Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or Metallurgical Engineering. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in conducting complex corrosion control and analysis as the position serves as a ¿technical expert¿ in a designated engineering function and may serve as a technical lead on team projects. Candidates will have a minimum of 7 years of progressive engineering experience in a Corrosion/Materials environment and relative experience within the Gulf Region of the US in the oil and gas Industry, petrochemical industry, and plant engineering. Strong written and oral communication skills are required to effectively develop presentations, analytical reports and technical correspondence. Experience with internal and external corrosion control on process piping systems and pumping equipment. Experience and training in hazardous process piping systems, and/or tanks. API 570, ASME B31.4, DOT CFR 49 Part 195 training and experience. API 653 & 610, training and experience is also desirable. DESIRED: Preference is given to candidates who hold the LA or TX Professional Engineer certification and/or are corrosion specialist. Grade L security clearance may be needed. |
