Job Description | Company Overview: KapStone Paper and Packaging Corporation’s Longview mill is strategically located in Longview, Wash., close to several export ports and with ready access to Interstate 5, two rail lines and barge traffic on site, KapStone's Longview mill is a major producer of kraft paper packaging and is one of the highest-capacity and most diverse paper mills in North America. KapStone also has a West Coast network of well-equipped corrugated container plants in four states (in addition to the box plants they have in other parts of the United States). The Longview mill manufactures more than 70 grades of kraft paper and containerboard, and supply a broad range of corrugated packaging and solid fibre slip sheets.

Job Summary:
Engineers are responsible for coordinating with and providing technical leadership to the entire operations group to assure safety, quality and efficiency throughout the papermaking process. Engineers are required to actively seek ways of improving current methods, systems, and processes to provide customer satisfaction. Engineers must possess strong technical skills and be able to develop recommendations using data mining techniques. Engineers are responsible for all areas of the mill, including the Paper Mill, Fiberline and Power & Recovery.
Essential Functions:
•Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives throughout the mill - including researching, designing, and implementing such improvements.
•Develop solutions to complex problems.
•Process optimization in all areas of the mill – including developing new ways to improve safety, efficiency and reduce cost.
•Ensure that projects get completed in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
•Ensure equipment is performing safely and reliably and meets environmental standards.
•Lead effective communication processes to resolve issues and ensure team alignment and understanding.
•Contact vendors, contractors, and governmental agencies as pertinent.
•Ensure compliance with all regulations and laws as they affect mill projects.
•Determine and track costs on capital projects and assist with justification.
•Provide technical expertise for troubleshooting.
•Develop and record policies and procedures.
Requirements:
•Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably 3-5 years of manufacturing experience. Pulp and Paper experience desired, but not required.
•Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (e.g. Honeywell, Allen-Bradley), Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s) and Power Distribution Systems.
•Commitment to Safety – must be able to identify safety improvement opportunities.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills: general ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form.
