Sr. Mechanical Engineer

Job Description
Position Summary:

Works with other Engineers, Department Managers, and the Finance Department to plan layouts and design improvements in facilities and production areas.

Designs or modifies structures, equipment and fixtures.

Directs the design of new equipment.

Provides technical consulting services to Plant Management.

Uses AutoCAD Software to prepare layouts to mill facilities.

Reports to the Engineering manager, and is responsible for organizing highly complex activities for the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering projects.

Minimum Experience and Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Computer literate in Excel, Word and AutoCAD, 3D Modeling.

Ability to read equipment drawings (hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, etc.)

Strong communication skills – oral and written.

Ability to manage a project to conclusion.

Team player with the proven ability to work in a fast paced manufacturing environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Experience and Education:

Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

15-20 years experience in a steel mill or heavy manufacturing environment.

Experience and/or training in Project Management and project scheduling.

Other Tasks and Responsibilities:

Prepare technical and other project specifications; Coordinate mechanical design work with that performed by other engineering disciplines.

Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements, applying knowledge of engineering principles.

Conduct research that tests or analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, or performance of equipment, components, or systems.

Investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation, and to make recommendations to maintenance crew.

Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification.

Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.

Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
