Overall Job Summary:

The successful candidate will support transition from R&D to Manufacturing with emphasis on process development for a highly complex opto-mechanical system used in a medical device. The successful candidate will be the lead optical engineer responsible to develop assembly, integration and test processes and procedure to assist with R&D product transfer. They will also be the lead cognizant engineer throughout the product life cycle, including integrating new design and production technologies as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Transition new optical designs from R&D into Manufacturing Lead and sustaining optical engineer responsible for alignment, integration and test throughout product life cycle Develop novel and efficient alignment, integration and test processes, tooling and equipment Lead and train optical technicians as required Problem solving for assembly and test issues as required Provide manufacturing and test leadership to new product development and R&D Qualification Requirements:

Excellent manufacturing & test experience in an optics and laser systems environment Proven track record in optical system alignment, integration and testing Experience with optical design software (Zemax) Excellent communication skills – both written and oral Proven ability to interface with teams, suppliers and customers at all levels Ability to learn quickly; work under pressure and to strict deadlines. Proven interpersonal and team working skills. Excellent problem solving skills and an understanding of continuous improvement methodology leading to zero defect manufacture Ability to work independently with a minimum of technical supervision

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in optics or physics plus a minimum of ten years experience working in optical design, new product development with direct experience in optical module assembly, integration and test. A current working knowledge of Zemax design code is essential as well as a wide variety of optical measurement equipment including interferometers, alignment telescopes, wavefront sensors and machine vision equipment.
