Everest National Insurance Company, a member of the Everest Re Group, Ltd., is seeking a Sr. Surplus Lines Property Underwriter for our NYC office.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:


Underwriting of primary and excess layers with the ability to evaluate all risk characteristics (construction, occupancy, protection, exposures, financials, management experience, etc.) to determine proper limits, attachment points, and terms. Must be able to price accounts for profit
within Company Underwriting guidelines and authority.

Analyze, and accept or reject Excess and Surplus property risks.

Build a book of business and underwriting team reporting to Everest Property Vice President.

Assist with program audits and refinement of guidelines and rating procedures as needed.

Review, analyze, and interpret program metrics and reports.

Keep alert to industry and marketplace changes and share information with other underwriters and department managers.

Develop and maintain working relationships with appointed brokers.

Provide production support through development of marketing plans, procurer evaluations, and prospecting.

Support, train, and mentor less experienced staff members as needed.

Work closely with staff at all levels (underwriters, policy technicians, home office and executive staff) to optimize productivity and service.

Some overnight travel may be required.


Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University or seven plus years of direct related
experience.

CPCU and/ or Surplus Lines designation preferred.

Thorough understanding, knowledge and experience with property catastrophe exposures and portfolio management.

Ability to understand and interpret submissions, loss control reports, and various policy forms/endorsements.

Should be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of catastrophe computer models.

Proficiency with Excel and other MS Office productivity software.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills is a must.

Established relationships with North East/South East wholesale brokers is highly preferred.

Underwriting experience focused on business domiciled in North East/South East.
