| Job Description | Founded in July 2009 Skorpios Technologies is a fabless semiconductor company delivering highly integrated communications products based upon our proprietary, wafer-scale, silicon photonics process. This novel platform process leverages the existing silicon manufacturing ecosystem to enable high bandwidth interconnectivity at mature CMOS manufacturing costs. Skorpios’ unique platform can be used to address a wide range of applications: high-speed video, data and voice communications for networking and cloud computing, storage, wireless and cable TV.
Title: Staff Engineer
Reports to: VP of Engineering
General Function:
Performs research, design development, and commercialization of integrated nanoscale optoelectronic photonic devices and systems. The Silicon Photonics R&D Scientist will develop cutting edge passive and active nanophotonic devices in silicon, such as waveguides, resonant structures, couplers, and modulators. The Silicon Photonics R&D Scientist will be responsible for the design as well as characterization of devices. Other duties as assigned.
Basic Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:
Ph.D. degree required in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or other related field.
Experience with:
Extensive experience with optical waveguide simulations.
Design and test experience with any of the following: Mux/demux (including AWGs, Echelle grating, etc.) semiconductor lasers, semiconductor modulators, photodetectors, and grating couplers.
Experience with either Silicon Photonics or III-V optics for optical communications.
Must have strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment
Must have effective communication skills.
Must be able to work effectively in a dynamic start-up environment.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
Successful completion of a post-offer pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Sedentary job position consisting of sitting, occasional standing/walking.
Daily use of a computer, telephone, and other general office equipment.
