Staff Scientist, Chemistry
Job Description
We seek an experienced, engaged analytical chemist with the ability to operate and troubleshoot modern instrumentation associated with the characterization of new chemical entities, including, but not limited to, NMR, HPLC, UPLC and LC-MS. Understanding of spectroscopic and fluorescence-based instrumentation and techniques are highly desirable. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to participate effectively in multidisciplinary teams to solve problems outside of his/her core expertise and a positive can-do attitude are essential. Candidate must possess great organization skills, be attentive to detail and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
Essential Function
Responsible for the characterization of small molecules for use as tools in biological or biochemical assays, microscopy imaging and flow cytometry applications. Must be able to maintain, support and troubleshoot the instrumentation used in these analyses, as well as document these processes. Must independently plan and execute laboratory experiments, adapting or modifying methods to troubleshoot analytical problems, and instruments, as needed. Must be able to plan and complete material verification and validation experiments in concordance with existing processes related to new product development. Must be able to critically analyze chemistry/biological data and independently interpret results.
Participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team, communicating analytical characterization strategies, efforts and results in relation to project goals to an audience of both chemist and non-chemist colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications
Strong hands-on skills in analytical chemistry are a must, as is the ability to communicate effectively with people in other disciplines. Ph.D. degree with 0 – 3 years experience, Master's degree with 6 plus years experience, or Bachelor’s degree with 8 – 10 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Biological assay development experience is desirable, but not a requirement.
