Description:

We are seeking an exceptional Staff Scientist/Engineer - Research and Development to join our downstream process development staff in San Diego, CA.

Requirements:

Master’s or Ph.D. degree in chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry or chemical engineering, with 2+ years of industrial experience

Very strong knowledge of inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry

Knowledge of biological digesters, anaerobic and aerobic

Experience in developing, optimizing and implementing chemical reaction processes

Demonstrated skills in developing innovative technologies and experiments

Expertise in reaction kinetics and reaction engineering

Experience with experimental design and statistical analysis

Experience with building and operating small scale reactors

Demonstrated, strong interpersonal and communication skills

Critical thinking and problem solving skills

Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects

Ability to effectively participate in interdisciplinary teams


Requirements: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Lead the development of chemical technology processes for the recycling of nutrients from the streams generated by the various algae oil extraction processes

Design, develop and optimize chemical processes leading to the conversions of the algae oil production streams into nutrients and other chemicals compatible with the algae ecosystem

Apply strong chemistry and engineering knowledge to develop economically viable chemical processes for the conversion of the algae oil production streams

Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to transfer the processes developed from the laboratory to the field

Work closely with external groups and partners to leverage their knowledge and capabilities to ensure likelihood of success and decrease development time of the processes

Continuously contribute to the company’s intellectual property portfolio, author publications in the scientific literature, and present at industry conferences

Analyze, write up, and present experimental results to others in the company to expedite the development of the integrated biofuels production process in a collaborative team environment
