Strategic Commodity Manager

Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position must have experience with electronics and electro mechanical parts. Additional responsibilities include:

Developing long range strategic and business procurement plans for assigned commodities.

Establishing and leading Commodity Teams that will drive cost reductions by resolving issues with particular commodities or suppliers.

Monitoring and assessing supplier performance.

Establishing supplier development programs to maximize value from incumbents and to identify and establish alternate suppliers.

Assessing supplier capabilities and capacities, developing mitigation plans when needed.

Material (PPV) Cost Reduction Reporting.

Supporting new product launches.

Developing sources for new parts.

Work with Product Management, Engineering and Commodity buyers to select appropriate suppliers for all new program requirements.

Leading and facilitating Make or Buy decision making.

Managing the supplier selection process for projects with significant outsource content.

Developing and implementing direct or indirect material and services cost reductionstrategies.

Negotiating and implementing long term supply agreements/price agreements.

Generate weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.

Traveling to suppliers to resolve issues.

Participating in staff meetings.

Attending training for personal development.

Adhering to Corporate processes and policies.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of program management methodologies.

International sourcing experience and Asian language skills, preferably Chinese desired.

Previous program management experience with transitioning internal manufacturing to outsourcing contract manufacturing suppliers.

Experience in gas turbines, fuel systems, controls, power electronics, or power generation is desirable.

Ability to read and clearly understand specifications, prints, or schematics.

Lead or participated with the formal assessment and qualification of supply partners.

Effective people management skills, particularly influencing management and conflict resolution.

Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities.

General knowledge of operations, including manufacturing, test engineering, and quality systems.

Ability to understand, track, drill-down, and question activities and issues in all functional areas and make sound business decisions based upon that data.

Strong negotiation and leadership skills.

Strong presentation skills.

Strong attention to detail and follow-through skills.

Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic and unstructured, entrepreneurial environment where growth and professionalism will be achieved largely through creativity, high integrity, reasoned and thoughtful judgment, sense of urgency, a balance between strategic and tactical skills and a willingness to roll up the sleeves.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Bachelors or Masters degrees in business or engineering desired. Practical experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.

Minimum 10 years purchasing/planning experience in both high & low volume production environments.

Experience in an ISO 9000 manufacturing environment

Experienced in interacting with production floor to plan & schedule daily production requirements.

Demonstrated ability to manage & improve supplier relationships & performance
