Role Purpose/Accountabilities:

Accountable for leading the Global Molecular Marker Development Team (Native Traits) for Syngenta to develop, optimize, deploy, and maintain anonymous and trait specific markers, as well as scouting and evaluation of new detection technologies.

Accountabilities: Lead, direct and manage Marker Assay Development staff in three global locations.

Drive the implementation of standard operating procedures globally for molecular marker assay development, deployment, and technical lifecycle support.

Establish strong cross functional relationships with key stakeholders (Crops, Breeders, GPLs, Omics, QG, Regional Laboratories, etc.)Provide scientific and technical knowledge for innovation and evaluation of new opportunities for marker assays design and detection.

Drive innovation in the area of genetic detection and work across MA function, Research Partners, and Production and Supply to develop a comprehensive strategy.

Perform all activities in accordance with the Syngenta Health, Safety, Environmental
Policy and Quality Management/Stewardship guidelines.

Participate to the definition of new strategies for marker implementation from R&D to Commercial, leveraging markers in breeding program.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Critical knowledge: :

Ph.D. or equivalent in Plant Genetics, Molecular Biology, Plant Biochemistry or related field and 8-10+ years of professional experience in the area of industrial Biotechnology.

Project management knowledge to successfully navigate a complex technical and matrix environment.

Ability to work in a cross-functional, multi-site, multi-cultural, cross-business environment effectively.

Critical Experience:

Demonstrated success in leading results oriented program requiring scientific creativity, innovative thinking, organization, and collaborative skills.

Proven leadership skills, in particular, communicating, partnering, influencing, and working with cross functional and cross cultural teams in the absence of direct functional management relationships.

Experience in staff management-coaching, performance management, and staff development.

Critical Success Factors & Key Challenges: Demonstrated success in leading results oriented program requiring scientific creativity, innovative thinking, organization, and
collaborative skills.

Proven leadership skills, in particular, communicating, partnering, influencing, and working with cross functional and cross cultural teams in the absence of direct functional management relationships.

Strong scientific background in assay development, deployment, technology scouting and application. Ability to successfully cultivate an effective and innovative team environment and promote full engagement of team members across disciplines, sites and cultures.

Work effectively in a matrix organization involving local, regional, and global organization; must be able to deal with complexity, some ambiguity and maintain focus on essential activities.

Demonstrated leadership in a complex matrix organization.

Travel Requirements and other information:
Will need to travel to locations of team members, Regional Genotyping Laboratories, internal project and company meetings, collaborators, and relevant scientific and technical meetings (15-25%)
