Technology Product Manager ITS

Job Description
Primary Role

Responsible for overseeing new product development activities through direct and indirect staff. Manage product development and administration resources including third party vendors with respect to resource management, project scheduling, technical direction, strategic planning, and standard development practices. Whether for product selection or development, manage expertise responsible for the coordination of introducing new desktop, laptop and mobile technologies into the American Water Enterprise, the development of packaged software solutions for implementing commercial off-the-shelf solutions, as well as the implementation of requirements gathering, systems analysis, desktop/laptop image design, development, quality assurance testing and image deployment and management. Focus on defining, implementing, and integrating quality principles and quality processes into the design and development of desktop/laptop images, solution and IT processes, as appropriate.

Key Accountabilities

Business Support:
Drive efforts to identify or develop IT desktop, laptop and mobile products to improve client productivity and efficiencies.
Shape the solution strategy by working closely with business teams and various ITS groups in determining alternatives and solutions for addressing business challenges.
Manage a full range of technology solutions and support, including project management, technology identification, testing, requirements gathering, analysis, design, development, quality assurance and performance management associated with the selection, testing and deploying of desktop, laptop and mobile computing solutions.
Help clients achieve their business goals by identifying, building, integrating and supporting desktop, laptop and mobile computing solutions for optimized quality, increased business value, faster time-to-market and reduced total cost of operations.

Planning & Execution:
Support planning, prioritization, deployment and management of technology and resources (financial and staffing) related activities, including developing proof-of-concept activities, beta testing and production readiness scheduling of new standard technologies into the American Water Enterprise.
Ensure delivery of high quality standardized solutions, on time, within budget, and that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Provide leadership and/or guidance in strategic planning, tactical execution, project management, process management and business systems requirements definition.

Project Requirements:
Supervise all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of desktop, laptop and mobile solutions.
Oversee maintenance, support, and upgrade activities for existing desktop, laptop and mobile solutions.
Manage and report on project budget with respect to staff hours, hardware and software purchases, consultant hours and third party vendor Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Assure established policies and practices are adhered to during the design, development, testing and deployment of desktop, laptop and mobile solutions.
Champion the adherence to quality principles in business and IT processes and ensure deliverables meet high quality standards.

Vendor Relationships:
Support the vendor selection process as it relates to third party outsource activities associated with desktop, laptop and mobile technology related activities.
Develop and maintain strong relationship with application vendors in order to keep current with changes in the market place.
Research, recommend, and implement cost-efficient means of improving quality of product.
Manage and negotiate with vendors and contractors as required including contracts management for adherence to Service Level Agreements(s)
Work with vendors and other managers in keeping current roadmaps of technology and applications for the utility industry.

Staff Management:
Manage personnel by providing administrative oversight, resource planning, salary administration, performance expectation setting, and providing timely performance feedback.
Motivate and inspire teams while promoting Corporate core values.
Ensure career planning and guidance is available to staff and included as part of the performance review process.

Proven management skills especially in the areas of conflict management, influencing, employee performance management and resource management.

Demonstrated capabilities in managing the identification, purchase or development of desktop, laptop and mobile technology solutions for business use.
Ability to work with technology and business resources in information gathering, solution definition, product testing and product deployment.
Proficiency with the most current Microsoft Office suite and other similar business applications software.
Ability to routinely work in an independent manner and to make timely, sound business decisions even when provided with limited information
Minimum of 7 years of demonstrated skills with IT business applications processes and practices, including at least 3 years demonstrated skills in managing teams in desktop, laptop and mobile product development, testing, integration and deployment.
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated skills with business process analysis, support, and maintenance.
Minimum of 5 years demonstrated skills required managing technology teams with a team size greater than five employees.
Demonstrated skills in developing and conducting test processes for multiple types of technologies across an organization.
Demonstrated skills with the utility industry is desirable, but not required.

Knowledge

Working knowledge of appropriate or comparable desktop, laptop and mobile technology solutions in various business environments.
Demonstrated knowledge and comprehension of core business functions, processes and operations.
Proven knowledge of project management and mastery of desktop, laptop and mobile technology selection or development methodologies and tools including a thorough understanding of the development life cycle and best practices.
