BROAD FUNCTION:
INFICON is currently seeking a scientist/technologist to become the future subject matter expert for ""Thin Film Technology"". This expertise involves understanding optical, ophthalmic, and OLED deposition processes. These processes utilize specialized materials and sensors. These sensor signals frequently require special care and feeding (figuratively) in order to maximize their measurement performance. This individual will be looking at various thin film deposition systems from a high level (their intended purposes in production) down into the detailed sensor signal level, where the chemistry and material properties influence their deposition controlling sensor signals.
Will be expected to perform the following on a daily basis:
· Performing advanced studies and analysis using ""whatever tools are appropriate to solve the problem.""
· Visiting OEM and End User customers (<5% travel) to understand technology and their application.
· Driving innovation through participation in user groups, consortiums, scientific societies (SVC) etc.
· Providing technical input into Marketing application notes, white papers, and customer special products.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Comfortable in the laboratory running experiments and creating apparatus as they are accurately modeling physical systems that interact in complex ways.
· Foundation knowledge in the areas of heat transfer, optics, material systems and piezoelectricity.
· Knowledge of electrical measurement and signal recovery techniques.
· Assist in performing trade off analysis of features and cost to develop cost effective solutions.
· Solid mechanical design basics and the ability to provide sufficiently detailed sketches and drawings to skilled machinists.
· Ability to convey concepts in writing to non-specialists and generate concise written content.
· Develop and/or assist in the creation of documentation such as technical reports, comparison charts, progress reports and other material as required.
· Provide technical support, testing and performance evaluations for new products and customer applications.
· Ability to program and interface with standard measurement instruments in C++, C#, LabView or Visual Basic.
· Experience with various modeling and simulation programs, FEA methods and multi-analysis models is preferred.
· Maintain an awareness of performance trends of Thin Film crystal sensors and instrumentation products.
· Have a businessman’s awareness for new product ideas, features and improvements.
· Sustain high levels of individual output while working in a close team environment.
· Perform other tasks with the Thin Film Engineering team for product development and product verification of complex control instrumentation.
· Provide technical support to other team members as required.
· Maintain an organized work area and laboratory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Masters Degree in Physics, Engineering or closely related science required. Recent graduates will need to provide a copy of their transcript as part of the interview and screening process.
· Strong mathematical skills and experience required.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills with good organizational skills.
· Ability to work in a team based environment
· Ability to work with Operations and Engineering (in both Syracuse, New York and Overland Park, Kansas) in the manufacturing of instrumentation and crystals.
· Must be able to travel to crystal production facility in Kansas when required with occasional travel to customer sites world-wide when investigating customer needs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· PhD Degree in Physics, Engineering or closely related science preferred.
· 2-3 years of relevant experience in research or product development preferred.
· Experience with optics, vacuum and thin film deposition equipment is preferred.
