Job Description | A. The principal reason for and the general purpose of this job:
Design production welding & assembly fixtures, lifting devices and other specialty tools to include stress analysis and complete documentation. Assist in the supervision of hourly employees who construct fixtures as required.
B. Duties and responsibilities:
Design fixtures, lifting devices, and other specialty tools in order to facilitate product construction at all Trinity manufacturing facilities.
Produce the required drawings, bills of material and other applicable information to build the designed devices.
Prepare reports detailing the analysis conclusions.
Maintain all fixturing records.
Order materials to construct designs.
Research and recommend materials, vendors, methods, and procedures in order to maximize company efficiency and minimize all costs associated with fixturing and construction.
Travel to other locations when necessary to work on projects and / or represent the
Facilities Engineering at planning team meetings or other functions.
Verify fixture accuracy by inspecting fixture construction and assisting in the supervision of hourly employees who construct fixtures.
Write technical documents and training manuals for the purpose of training other employees.
10. Give presentations on projects.
C. The goals and objectives incumbent upon this job:
Produce fixture and lifting device designs in time to meet production schedules.
Improve manufacturing processes, quality, and safety.
Reduce overall costs associated with production.
Reduce fixture construction hours and material costs.
D. The level of supervision and direction anticipated to be provided:
Engineers must be capable of brainstorming projects with immediate supervision and other team members.
Engineers must be capable of independent and team project completion with minimal supervision.
E. Additional decision-making responsibilities:
Engineers must select appropriate materials and vendors.
Must be able to oversee multiple projects from concept sketch through shop floor implementation, including but not limited to quotes, sketches, research, modeling, drafting, ordering, inspecting and construction oversight.
Is organized and can receive or hand-off projects to others easily
Can check their work and the work of others for compliance to technical specifications
Engineers will assist in the development of new methods and procedures.

A. This person will work and cooperate with:
Manager of Tooling & Fixturing Design and other managers within Facilities Engineering.
Other engineers in Facilities Engineering.
Shop supervision in the various Tooling & Fixturing departments company-wide.
All other salary and hourly employees company-wide.
Suppliers and vendors.
B. The general working environment and / or conditions experienced in this job:
The majority of time is spent in a professional office environment.
A moderate amount of time is spent in a heavy industrial manufacturing shop environment utilizing personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, ear & eye protection and steel toed shoes, for safety.
Engineers will be exposed occasionally to seasonal weather conditions.
Standard 40-hour work week.
Some over time and weekends as required.

1. Personal computer running Windows 7 operating system.
2. 3D CAD software Autodesk Invnetor.
3. Microsoft Office software
4. MathCAD software.
5. Measuring and inspection tools.
Required Skills
Qualifications:
A. The minimum general education required:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelors degree [Mechanical Engineering preferred] or work place experience equivalent.
A minimum of 1 to 2 years of experience working in a related mechanical field is preferred.
Must be able to use college level math including calculus efficiently.
It is preferred that the candidate have some supervisory skills.
B. Specialized education or training:
Is a power user in at least one 3D CAD package [Autodesk Inventor, Solid Works or Pro-E preferred]. A power user is defined as being able to use 85% of the program fluently.
MathCAD or equivalent mathematical calculation software.
Personal computer experience/training.
Microsoft Office or equivalent office suite of software.
Stress analysis background, knowledge of ANSYS or Mechinica a plus.
Structural steel familiarity.
Ability to speak and write Spanish is a plus.
C. Physical requirements:
Shall be physically active, as the work requires walking, standing, lifting, bending, carrying, kneeling, stretching, and climbing of ladders and scaffolds.
D. General Requirements
Must be able to get a U.S. Passport.
Moderate travel required each year via car or air.
Must be able to travel on short notice. |
