Job Description
Overview:

Drives the retention and new business production of Self-Insured Group (SIG) business to wholesale & retail brokers, Selective agents and prospective clients, Underwrites, proposes and binds new SIG business; and manages client and producer relationships while maintaining P/L responsibilities for the Self Insured Group book of business. SIG products may either be direct insurance or assumed reinsurance, primary or excess of loss, and manual or CLAS issued. The VP of Alternative Markets accomplishes the above with the input and support of the Strategic Business Units, Business Service Unit, Regions, Actuarial, Legal, Reinsurance Accounting, Corporate Claims, Compliance and various outside vendors (TPAs, pool administrators, brokers, etc). All job duties and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.


Responsibilities:

Market new SIG insurance and reinsurance products to various production sources via marketing calls and attendance at relevant conferences and conventions.

Secure new business submissions from producers and then underwrite, propose, negotiate and bind business in compliance with SIG underwriting guidelines.

Build and maintain positive client, producer and vendor (TPAs, etc) relationships via board meeting attendance, producer office visits and attendance at relevant conferences such as AGRIP, PRIMA, CAJPA, PARMA, etc.

Manage assigned renewal book to budgeted rate, retention, aggregate attachment point and profitability targets.

In coordination with the assigned SIG UW Technical Specialist, determine applicability of industrial risk exemption/de-regulation or individual risk filing status of direct excess accounts through resources in the Compliance &/or State Filings departments.

Take initiative to research and develop new SIG products.

Take lead in production and delivery of quarterly reports to the Selective executive management team.

Responsible for travel within territory. Travel represents approximately 25-33% of employee’s time.Clients and brokers are across continental forty-eight states so most travel is via air.

Qualifications:

Knowledge of class codes with an emphasis on public sector business is required

Strong commercial underwriting, rating and coding experience

Superior customer service, interpersonal, marketing and organizational skills

Excellent analytical and research skills

Superior oral presentation skills as divisional results will be delivered to senior management

Team-oriented with ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Strong PC skills

Facultative Reinsurance knowledge is important

Must have valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and the ability to travel mostly via air.

College degree strongly preferred.

Experience preferred as follows:

10-15 years commercial underwriting experience required, with exposure to SIR and Large Deductable plans desired.

Public entity experience such as municipality or school coverage is essential -

Knowledge of NCCI, ISO, and other various state bureaus

CPCU designation preferred
