Aegon’s Risk Structuring & Transfer (RS&T) department exists to facilitate the execution of transactions that improve the risk-reward trade-off on the Aegon Group’s balance sheet. The team focuses on underwriting risk. This means:
•Supporting Aegon and Units as necessary with materials, analysis and gathering of expert opinions – internal and external to Aegon - to make decisions
•Proposing on strategic structures and working with Units to assess options for financially favorable resolutions in line with the Group’s risk tolerance
•Implementing – in close cooperation with Group Risk and others as appropriate - infrastructure to better evaluate global opportunities and better manage risk profile upon monitoring.
•Executing the Group’s risk retention strategy on behalf of Group where the MB and GRCC deem this a reasonable action

This position will be located in our Baltimore, MD, Transamerica office.

Position in the organization
The Valuation & Capital Actuary reports to the Head of Valuation for Blue Square Re.

Responsibilities
This position supports the Valuation and Capital Management unit of Blue Square Re with an emphasis on business originated by Aegon Direct & Affinity Marketing Services (ADAMS). The ideal candidate will work with other units including Pricing, Accounting, Group Risk, and with country units. This role will provide the successful candidate with exposure to a wide variety of products sold across various geographic regions including the details required to appropriately model and assess their risks.

Results
Primary duties will include but are not limited to the following:
•Responsible for quarterly financial reporting including reserve and capital calculations under various frameworks
•Work with local pricing team and across business units to ensure consistency, appropriate assumption setting, and application of best practices
•Monitor capital requirements and develop forecasts based on existing business opportunities to help guide decision making
•Identify opportunities to manage capital requirements by optimizing the portfolio taking into account both sides of the balance sheet
•Continually identify high-impact opportunities for improvement (e.g. automation, optimization)
•Maintain and improve documentation making it available electronically
•Draft any process, procedural, technical specs or correspondences needed
•Provide peer review as needed for any outgoing reporting
•Monitor and stay current is in regulatory issues, industry standards, and best practices
•Provide technical explanations on product features and functionality and impact on modeling choices and results


Knowledge, experience and skills


Qualification
•Minimum of ASA or equivalent professional designation with Bachelors Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related field and 3-5 years of relevant experience
•(Re)insurance and/or banking work experience
•Experience with investments, insurance products and derivatives
•Detailed risk management or financial product pricing experience
•Strong computer skills including programming
