Galena Biopharma, Inc. (NASDAQ: GALE), is a biopharmaceutical company developing and commercializing innovative, targeted oncology treatments that address major medical needs across the full spectrum of cancer. The company is looking for an experienced business development professional to join our growing organization to support its strategic development programs and partnership opportunities.

Position Summary:

The Vice President, Business Development/Alliance Management is responsible for developing and implementing a strategy for out-licensing key development programs, the identification and assessment of assets and technologies for potential in-licensing, and the management of key strategic alliances of the company, in support of Galena’s business strategy. This individual will be a member of the company’s Executive Management team, and will be expected to contribute to the development of the company’s global strategy, development of the company’s culture, and participate in communications with the company’s Board of Directors.

Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a partnering strategy for Galena’s development programs, including identifying potential partners.

Identify potential partners, and build relationships with key counter parties
Prepare materials, including presentations, marketing brochures, fulfill diligence requests
Identify, review and provide recommendations based on scientific/technical merit and strategic fit of new in-licensing opportunities that are consistent with strategic direction of the Company.

Lead due diligence teams to provide guidance and focus to evaluations
Lead asset evaluation efforts and serve as a member of strategic project teams

Experience Requirements:

Scientific degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred (PhD or MD)
8-10 years of pharma or biotech experience or combination of biotech/pharma
Strong and demonstrable deal making skills, including established deal sheet in out-licensing from small biotech to large pharma
Experience sourcing and evaluating pharmaceutical or biotech products for potential licensing/acquisition, including established deal sheet

Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build strong working relationships both internally and externally in the pharma, biotech and academic communities
Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to work productively with minimal supervision, both individually and as part of a team
Strong written and verbal communication skills – especially presentation skills; ability to summarize and present complex technical information/scientific data and strategic context to Senior Management, the Board of Directors, partners and customers
Ability to travel as necessary, consistent with corporate needs
A high level of integrity
