The successful candidate will be responsible for the vision, leadership, and management of the Engineering for the Forest, Lawn & Garden (FLAG) division and for R&D as a corporate shared service. This role is responsible for leading, planning, directing, controlling and coordinating engineering and research and development activities, including product design, metallurgical engineering, metallurgical and product testing, drafting and records, and engineering computer systems. This role will guide the expansion of FLAG’s engineering resources beyond mechanical to include electro-mechanical solutions and technologies. This position also develops, implements and sustains policies and practices to guide the product design and test engineering group and R&D and directs all activities towards the best engineering practices to meet or exceed the strategic direction and financial targets of the company.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Leadership in the development of strategy and direction of Engineering and R&D group, setting strategic direction in conjunction with marketing and business development functions

Develop technology and innovation strategies; evaluating new technology, processes and materials to improve productivity, lower design and product cost and improve quality

Evaluate new technology, processes and materials to improve productivity, lower design and product cost and improve quality

Motivate, develop and train engineering staff to drive performance and achieve team members’ goals as well as company objectives; provide coaching , mentoring, and guidance to direct reports

Liaise with Marketing to support new product development

Develop strategies and implement plans for successful intellectual property capture, review, and harness

Represent Blount as engineering liaison, provide customer feedback, liaison with
OEMs/suppliers on engineering matters, provide product liability representation and company representation to product safety/standards organizations

Proficiency in clearly communicating new technologies as required to management and others who may not have special knowledge

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

At least 15 years of experience in product design and development in manufacturing, with strong technical level of knowledge required

At least 5 years of management experience required; 15+ years’ leadership of a team

Demonstrated experience with design and analysis of test results

Experience reading technical and intellectual property related documents

Proven ability to manage operational and capital expense budgets

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or relative technical field required; Master’s degree in engineering preferred
